Wayne Goss lived in Durack and attended Inala HighSchool. (Now Glenala High)

We asked Mr Goss for comments about the site and  our suburb  He kindly gave us a photograph  and these  thoughts.

"I think it's terrific that you are undertaking this project to build a website promoting Inala. There have been a lot of good people who have lived, and still live in Inala and the contribution that they have made to building a better community is something that really should be recognised.  A website that tells the story of the many people and activities connected with Inala is really worthwhile."

"What I learnt at lnala High was the value of hard work and that combined with determination you could go a long way towards achieving your goals. As my life proceeded through various careers in the Law, Parliament and now as a Company Director, those lessons have remained as true today as they were back in the 60 'so

Welcome for S/W Neighbouring Communities Regional Website

As the State Member for Inala it gives me great pleasure to welcome residents and visitors to the South West Neighbouring Communities Regional Website an initiative of Inala Community House.

The South West Region is made up of a number of establish and emerging communities that are rich in cultural diversity.

This website is a great resource for residents who want to engage the many government, non-government agencies and community organisations that strive to meet the needs of this rapidly growing region.

I would urge you to take some time to look at the website and to become involved in the many events held throughout 2007.

A message from Councilor Les Bryant.
Brisbane City Council.

For those of us who have been around long enough we are all very well aware that there is no doubt that Inala, as we have known it, has had a chequered and interesting past. Choose any suburb in any major city in the world today and tell me it is any different. Reputations come easy, changing opinions or shedding them off to evidence improved or up to date impression is sometimes difficult. Inala, when it was a young suburb was 'the heaven', that many people post WW2 found in their new country.

When they moved out of the Wacol Migrant Centre and into the new Queensland Housing Commission homes at Inala they had the basics to ensure a simple quality of life, a secure environment not evident in their place of origin. For many, they had escaped oppression to a country with opportunity for all. Sound employment prospects, a cleaner healthier family lifestyle, with their kids able to get quality education to ensure their future.

Many of those people who moved into those QHC homes subsequently purchased them, with a great number 50 years on still living in Inala, having had no inclination to move elsewhere over that time. They love the place and are very proud of it. Inala is still as much their home today as it was all those years ago. They would not change it for quids.

The base population reduced to about 9,500 from an 11,500 high in the 60'and 70's. That trend is now reversed with the advent of the State's Community and Urban Renewal Projects in partnership with the Brisbane City Council. Houses have been refurbished and rebuilt, the suburb has had a revitalization with a slowly increased population and interest with new people moving in, new families seeking something different and value for housing dollar.    Houses, which were $55,000, 5 years ago, with renewal, are bringing in excess of $150,000 today.

Parks, streetscapes and shopping centres have had considerable work done on them to bring them up to modern standards, in fact the cheapest commodity shopping in the State, is in our suburb. Community spirit and inclusiveness is very strong in Inala, people here have always held out the hand of welcome and friendship to those who are less fortunate, disadvantaged, sick or at risk, despite ones colour, creed or race.

One might say that is unusual in the world today, but not in Inala, these are real people in the real world and they live it in a real way.

Councilor Les Bryant
